What surprised me was how low the minimum quantity is — just 10 copies — and for a 200-page photobook, the cost can be under NTD 500 per book. That was completely unexpected, especially considering that most self-published photobooks I have seen start at over a thousand NTD, often with far fewer pages.

Seeing this made me realize that if the goal is simply to make a book, printing it yourself is actually very doable. Going through a publisher is not always necessary, especially if the motivation is personal rather than commercial.

The camera used for this roll was the Pentax Auto 110. I actually own quite a few of them — two Pentax Auto 110 bodies, one Pentax Auto 110 Safari, two Pentax Auto 110 Super, and one completely broken black version. Despite the number, they barely take up any space, which is part of their charm.

Originally, I sent this roll to a lab near Taipei Main Station for development and scanning, just to try something new. However, the scanned files were quite small, around 2598 x 2000 pixels including borders, and once the borders were cropped out, there was very little usable image area left. Because of that, I sent the film again to a lab in Changhua, JinYing Photo Lab. Their scans, without borders, are 4748 x 3649 pixels. Even though the actual resolution of 110 film does not reach that level, at least it gives me a clearer idea of its limits.

Another important reason for switching labs was file naming. The previous lab did not use unique filenames, meaning that different rolls could end up with identical file names. For someone like me, who manages images in Adobe Lightroom and publishes them on a blog, this quickly becomes a problem. Duplicate filenames force the system to add suffixes like "xxxx-1.jpg" or "xxxx-2.jpg," and over time, that makes file management unnecessarily complicated.

#1
Every Monday, I work near Zhongshan MRT Station in Taipei, staying on-site with a client and helping with various marketing and design-related tasks. What I enjoy most is the feeling of holding it and pressing the shutter. It almost feels like you are using a toy, and because of that, you stop expecting too much from the result. The focus shifts from chasing outcomes to simply enjoying the act of shooting. To be honest, I do not think the Pentax Auto 110 is a camera for producing extraordinary images. It cannot create that "beyond human vision" kind of look. Its rendering is very straightforward. If you want something more visually striking, the longer lenses like the 50mm f2.8 or 70mm f2.8 might help, but once you go that route, you also lose part of what makes the system special — its compactness.
Pentax-110 24mm f2.8

#5
Part of my running route led me onto the bridge.
